Both men were member of Company "E", 15th Confederate Cavalry. They enlisted at Milton, Fla., Sept. 17, 1861. I have the following information in my files:

Company "E" of Santa Rosa County, Florida "Simpson Mounted Rangers"

Norvelle Roberts Leigh. Formerly Captain of Company "C", 3rd Florida Cavalry Battalion. [Owen, DAB4:1035]

Organized by Captain E. S. Amos at Milton, Florida, September 17, 1861, as a twelve-month command, the company was assigned to Villepigue's 36th Georgia Infantry Regiment as Company "K" on October 19, 1861. That command disbanded a few months later. Officers and men reenlisted for two years or the war on May 6, 1862, and later became Company "C", 3rd Florida Cavalry Battalion. Service records from the battalion are found Microcopy M251(Florida), reels 14-15.

Stewart last appears on roll Sept. 2, 1864; Miller was captured by Federals of the 1st Florida (U.S.) and 2nd Maine Cavalry near Pensacola on Nov. 17, 1864. At that time the 15th Confederate was picketing along the Perido River, with occasional scouts sent towards Federal camps around Pensacola. Perhaps he got too close. At any rate, he spent time in prison on Ship Island, was transferred to New Orleans after the fall of Mobile, and released at Camp Townsend on the Big Black River near Vicksburg, MS, May 6, 1865.
