I just received the military service record from the National Archives for W. Woodard who enlisted September 1, 1863 in Grove Hill, AL. His service record contained only 2 records: a muster roll dated Sept. and Oct. of 1863 which gave his enlistment date and records he was enlisted by Lt. Kilpatrick as a recruit. The other record is titled "Prisoners of War" and shows he surrendered in Citronelle May 4, 1865 and paroled in Mobile June 7, 1865. His residence was given as Clarke Co., AL and a physical description is given. Does anyone know why no other muster roll for 1864 is held for him in the NARA file? I believe this is the same William Woodard who first enlisted in the Grove Hill Guards, Co. A, 5th AL Infantry May 6, 1861 and was given a medical discharge Aug 2, 1861 in Union Mills, VA for phrenitis. Has anyone else looked at service records for Co. I, Wood's Regiment and if so, were they missing 1864? Thanks!
