You are almost certainly asking about this command. It was known in the field as the 7th Alabama Cavalry, but not recognized by the War Department until Sept. 5, 1864. By that time another regiment had been given the designation 7th Alabama Cavalry, so this unit had to be renumbered.

Six of the twelve companies in this regiment were recruited at least in part from DeKalb County. Here's one:

Company “F” of DeKalb County

Robert R. Davenport. Formerly Captain of Company “B”, 19th Alabama Partisan Ranger Battalion. Appointed acting Assistant Quartermaster (A.A.Q.M.) March 1, 1864. Resigned January 27, 1865, due to ill health.

Officers and men mustered at Valley Head, Alabama, September 21, 1862, as Company “B” of the 19th Alabama Partisan Ranger Battalion.

We'll need to check your ancestor's service record in order to verify what company he joined.
