Alan J. PittsA/T artillery at SelmaWed Jan 31 15:15:29 2001 Excellent article! I've not seen documentation to this effect, but 'understood' that several batteries that had lost guns and caissons during the retreat from Nashville had been sent to Selma. The Mississippi battery mentioned here is Put Darden's.For those interested in the fighting at Girard, the writer concludes with a first-hand account of that action. He also includes a great description of the Federal attempt to cut off Hood's retreat over the Tennessee by sending an ironclad down the river.
