Army supplies CSA/Union Photos?
Sat Jan 27 22:38:30 2001

This is interesting. Haven't tried it yet but thought I'd pass along anyway. If anyone trys it (or knows more about), do report--

The U.S. Army, Carlisle, PA., maintains a collection of photographs of Union and CSA soldiers/veterans. They will check their files by name & unit of the soldier for no charge. If they have a photo they will produce an 8X10 B&W glossy for $10.

To inquire about a soldier/veteran write:

Curator
U.S. Army Military History Institute,
Carlisle Barracks, PA 17013

Provide soldier/veteran's full name (or as much known) and unit number and/or name (example: Company E, 19th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, C.S.A.). Be sure to indicate whether Union or C.S.A.

If they have a photo they will mail a photocopy of same with instructions for ordering a B&W glossy photo. There is no charge for the photocopy.
