Bryan Howerton c/o Jim MartinYour ancestorThu Jan 25 21:59:20 2001Dear Col. Scrogin,Here is Bryan Howerton's response to your query regarding John W. Black.-------John W. Black wasn't in the 4th (McNair's) Arkansas Infantry, he served in Co.D, 32nd Arkansas Infantry. This regiment was alternately designated as the 4thTrans-Mississippi Infantry, so the men often referred to it as the 4th ArkansasInfantry. He enlisted in Captain Hooker's independent cavalry company atJacksonport, Arkansas, on February 26, 1862; which became Company D when the32nd Arkansas was formed. He was appointed first sergeant; was severely woundedin the side and captured at Helena, Arkansas, July 4, 1863. He was sent toAlton, Illinois, then to Fort Delaware. I don't know the date he was released.Best regards,Bryan
