40th Flag mystery partially solved.

Regarding the long thread on the possibility that an eBay flag was a third flag of the 40th Ala. Inf., thanks to Bob Bradley at the ADAH and Dave Neel, I believe we can put the mystery to rest.

Bob tells Dave that he believes that he has correspondence where a member of the 40th borrowed the flag (postwar, of course) to make a copy of it. And, that he reported back that he had successfully made, or had it made, a copy. This must be the flag that was auctioned on eBay.

However, that still leaves the question of whether the 40th was issued a third flag at Vicksburg, or more likely, Demopolis. This flag may have been a Hardee pattern flag, and could possibly be one of the ones captured by the Union forces at Lookout Mt., and which are unidentified.
