64' & The End
Thu Jan 25 08:43:01 2001

It is anybody's guess. A lot of unusual things happened in 64' after the end became evident and relatively near. The momentum had shifted during the winter and the troops were reorganized in unorthodox and make shift fashion. After the draft began and due to all the loss by attrition, the army changed completely. Most of the mid battle line gunpowder leadership was lost in 62'- 63'and had to be patched together as best it could with whatever might be available. There are a lot of contradictions in the reporting of the details and it just depends on who you are willing to believe.

The first mistake by Davis, in this regard, was to over rule Lee in 62' when politicians requested the brigades be broken up and organized by states. Lee knew if it wasn't broken it shouldn't be fixed.
