That regiment was famous in that along with the 6th, 3rd, 12th and 26th went all the way from Hill H in the big campaigns of 62' to Rodes/Oneal in the closing days of 63' and beyond. It's sister regiment, the 6th, was given the honor of crossing the Potomac first during the Maryland invasion of September 62'.

The low numbered regiments went in first. The higher numbered ones mustered in during the mobilization of the second spring.
