Thanks for your response and guidance. It's funny that you mention McMorries' book: I recently ordered it from Barnes & Noble, having read much of it online at http://www.civilwarancestor.com/STORE/files/Ebook0068.htm. It is on page ten (10) that the author aknowledged both my g-grandfather (Daniel W. McLean) and g-uncle (David Shaw Bethune) as aiding him in gathering the material.

Would you be kind enough to begin a correspondance with me directly? I am wineluvr@mindspring.com. Perhaps you can decipher some of the records I have on the two men, information I'm sure would be of little interest to this forum.

What I am trying to ascertain is whether either man was already a member of the Perote Guards when it was formed into the 1st Alabama Volunteers. I would also like to straighten out the information I have, some of which is confusing because of the posting of dates by different people.
