Existed for about two weeks, if that. Three companies from the 38th Tennessee were detached from the regiment on March 18, 1862. These were led by Capt. John C. Clements, Co. "M", Capt. James Thomas Wooten, Co. "H" and Capt. James C. Hutto, Co. "K". They joined the seven companies of Chaddick's 2nd Alabama Infantry Battalion to form the 26th/50th Alabama on April 2, 1862, at Corinth, Miss.
