Alan Pitts
Hubbard's "Alabama Rangers"
Thu Jan 18 23:30:19 2001

First captain was David C. Hubbard, Jr. I noticed a record filed with the 1st Ala. Cav. Regt. of a man captured at Burnesville, MS, Mar. 17, 1863. He names called command the "Walker Alabama Rangers". He obviously doesn't belong to the 1st Ala. Cav., but might have served with Hubbard's old company. It operated with the 1st Confederate Cav. for two months (Apr.-May 1862), served independently during the summer until joining Roddey's 4th Ala. Cav. as Co. "K".

I've already posted a note to that effect, but thought I'd add more detail. The unit organized at Landersville in southwestern Lawrence, but included a fair number of men from Walker County. When I saw the name "Walker Rangers" yesterday, it caught my attention.
