You make sense about this. My great-grandfather drove a stagecoach carrying mail. My grandmother said it took him a long time to make the trip. His turnaround point was in southern Alabama (where he is buried). I felt that if he carried the mail there should be a record of him somewhere. The only proof I have of what my grandmother told me is the 1860 Alabama where he is listed as "Stage driver". Someone told me they were called "Post Riders" but that is all I know about it.
