Hi Fred,

Here's a guess. I've found a number of records stating killed, wounded or captured at Chickamauga for soldiers who were actually casualties at other smaller engagements prior to Chickamauga. Could it be that the same might be true about the skirmishes for several weeks after?

The 4th Alabama Cavalry was involved in the skirmish at Hunt's Mill near Larkinsville, AL (Sep 26, 63). This would put your man close to his home in Jackson County after the battle.
