Thanks for the information. I am actually looking for documentation on the treatment of families (wives, children) of men who may have deserted their CSA unit or had unionist sentiments. I suspect that these individuals were treated very harshly with some probably killed. The information post by Homer on the Ward Raiders is enlightening and is something I must really look at given the area from which these men originated. I must confess as a basic family genealogist it makes an old family story much more intriguing! You know as well as I that revenge can motivate some more than idealogy! The digging shall continue and hopefully I shall find the end to the twists and turns of this root!

I have not been able to get to that EGroup discussion board you mention. Hopefully they will get that straight in a few days.
