Name variants run like this:

COBERN,COBIN,COBORN,COBORNE,COBOURN,COBURN
Countless other possibilities exist. There doesn't appear to be much overlap with COLBORN/COLBURN, a common name in northern Bibb and southern Tuscaloosa County.

Within the list given above, the Broadfoot index gives us:

Coborn, A. Co G, 19th Ala. Inf. Regt.
Coborne, A. Co I, 26th Ala. Inf. Regt. (O'Neal's)
Coburn, Chauncey Co D, 5th Ala. Inf. Battn.
Cobern, David F. Kolb's Battery
Co B, 4th Battn. Hilliard's Ala. Legion
Coburn, Emmet 2Co B, Baxter's Conf. Cav. Battn.
Co -, Forrest's Ala. Cav. Regt.
Co A, 11th Ala. Cav. Regt.
Coburn, George Co B, 24th Ala. Cav. Battn.
Coburn, James Co E, 1st Ala. Inf. Regt.
Cobern, John S. Co H, 46th Ala. Inf. Regt.
Cobern, N. W. Co H, 46th Ala. Inf. Regt.
Coburn, Stanley D. Co D, 1st Ala. Art. Battn.
Coburn, Thomas S. Brooks' Ala. Cav. Co. (Reserves)

That's all folks! Note that Chauncey Coburn's name also appears with 2Co C, 19th VA Art. Battn. The Alabama unit (Co D 5th Battn. "Daniel Boone Rifles" from Mobile) was disbanded in May 1863, so he could have joined it after that date. It does seem that this unit belonged to a VA unit before joining Van de Graaf's command. Bottom line: both references may be to the same man, just like David and Emmet as shown above.
