It is very likely that the progenitor of all these Hesters was Middleton Hester. he was born in S.C. circa 1792. He served in the 10th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Volunteers during the War of 1812. He married Nancy [?] on 6/19/1818 in Monroe Co., Tenn. They moved to Logan Co., Ky, then to Lawrence Co., Ala. They then settled in Pickens Co., Ala. in 1839 or before.

Their youngest son was John Middleton Hester, who served in the 41st Ala. Inf., Co. D. Other known children were: Huldah, Mary, Jeppe, William, and Misanah. Other children are quite possible.

A uniformed picture (with bayoneted rifle and fighting knife) of John Middleton Hester can be seen on page 197 of the "The Heritage of Pickens County, Ala."
