Colonel Von Zinken led a regiment in the Louisiana brigade commanded by Brig.Gens. Daniel W. Adams and Randall Lee Gibson. Your note implies that this veteran recognized Von Zinken as his brigade commander. It's unusual for veterans to cite brigade leaders rather than regiment or company designations. Von Zinken served as post commander at Columbus GA for at least six months and had a sizeable number of troops to defend that town when Wilson came to call on Apr. 16, 1865. If you've looked for this man in the 20th Louisiana and not found his record, I'd suggest looking for him in the 1860 census of Randolph, Russell or some nearby Alabama county. If you locate him there, he probably served in a local defense unit under Von Zinken at Columbus.
