Homer, thanks for the additional information. Maybe I can find William J. Balkom (spellings Baulcom, Ballcom, etc.) somewhere in there. This is a new ancestor hunt for me so I am just getting started on this ancestor's military career and his general whereabouts and family. Thanks a lot for this.
