A brief note on the organization and assignments of this company may be seen in a previous post on Williams Alabama Cavalry Battalion. A muster roll appears on reel 495 of the National Archives microfilm of Alabama Confederate Service Records. To see it, visit the Southern Collection, Birmingham Public Library, or the library at Wallace State College. The State Archives has a manuscript roll in the Lawrence County file for independent companies. The unit's original captain was George E. Kumpe; it eventually formed part of the 11th Alabama Cavalry. I recommend calling ahead to check library hours over the holidays.
