If I read your post correctly, I believe we have the answer. The 12th Alabama Partisan Ranger Battalion was merged with the understrength 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment at Murfreesboro in November of 1862. It remained with that command until the middle of 1864 when the two units were separated. Several escort companies were assigned to the 12th Battalion and it was reorganized as the 12th Alabama Cavalry Regiment about December of 1864. If you need info about specific companies, let me know.
