I posted this question on the Mississippi board, but haven't received an answers. I'm reposting here hoping some of you will know the answer:

Does anyone know the history behind the two very large cannon barrels that used to be in front of the Columbus, Miss. library (next to the Gen. Stephen D. Lee home)? Anyone know what happened to them? On a recent trip to Columbus, I noticed that they are no longer there.

These were *very* large guns. They must have been siege guns. Laid end to end, they went across the entire front lawn width of the library, with just enough room left between them for an entrance walk.
