4th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry [also known as Baskerville's 2nd Mississippi Cavalry Battalion], then became 2nd Regiment Mississippi and Alabama Cavalry,
and subsequently became 8th Confederate Cavalry.

Company B of the 4th Batt. Miss. Cav. was "McCaa's Raiders/Rangers". This company was composed almost entirely of men from Pickens Co., Ala.

It became Company D "McCaa's Rangers" of the 2nd Regiment Mississippi and Alabama Cavalry, and then of the 8th Confederate Cav.

The 2nd Miss. and Ala. Cav./8th Conf. Cav. consisted of five other Alabama companies, and four Mississippi companies, for a total of 10 companies.
