I have seen the Broadfoot volumes, and you are right - no August McDuffee. I am also very certain that Angus and Argus were the same person. A cursive "n" is very similar to a cursive "r".

Since Ancestry.com has a one sentence reference to an August McDuffee in the 2nd AL Cav, this record had to originate somewhere. August is not a misspelling of Angus since he used both names. August is nowhere mentioned in his "Angus" McDuffee National Archives service record.

Any other ideas?
