Judy WillsIt wasn't grave markersTue Nov 21 22:05:52 2000 Hey y'all, First of all, Hayes and I are good enough friends now that I'm sure he did not take "pester" in the perjorativesense. Secondly: I know about the markers. I've even got someforms here, but thanks anyway. Thirdly: I am extremely interested in laws that Congress has passed in relation to our great Confederacy. Ihave been told that in 1928?? there was a joint resolutionof the Senate and House giving the name "War Between theStates" as the official name of the War of 1861 - 1865. Ihave been unable to find that resolution and to find thatHayes has come up with something else is most interesting. I knew from Jay Hoar's book "The South's Oldest Boysin Grey" that Confederate veterans were treated in VA hospitals and that some of them survived long enough to betreated with penicillin. There has been such a change in the attitude of thecountry toward the Confederacy just in my lifetime that Iwonder if I remember correctly when there was a time when"Dixie" was played and the whole crowd stood. To be fairit is not Congress that is responsible for this, but we havealmost reached a point where we will be ashamed to honor ourheroes. I could hardly believe it when a young friend ofmine, who is so typical of the men who rode with Forrest, had never heard of him and his step-father had not either. These are both men from north Alabama, but they missed out somewhere.Judy WillsFederal law regarding Confederates and the V.A. Hayes Lowe, Wed Nov 22 09:58 US Servicemen Judy Wills, Wed Nov 22 13:57
