KarenRe: 17th Tennessee Infantry - Co. IThu Nov 16 17:28:38 2000 This is what I have for now:"William Jasper was a Captain in the Confederate Army, Company "I," the 17th Tennessee Infantry. He fought with the Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee armies, and served under General James Longstreet and General Braxton Bragg during several expeditions including Chickamauga, Georgia; Corinth, Mississippi; Chattanooga and Murfreesburo, Tennessee, and Louisville, Kentucky. William was wounded in battle in 1862, Captain Matthews recuperted for awhile in Bridgeport, Jackson Co., Alabama, and later served in Florida and Virginia. His company was one of the last to surrender with General Robert E. Lee at the Courthouse in Appomattox, Virginia on April 9, 1865. (Obtained from "The Heritage of Jackson County Alabama," page 70). He died at the home of his uncle James Williams, near Bridgeport." Hope this helps you,Karen
